Not Just A Label

The for new and upcoming designers. This is how the site has been described by others in the know. They themselves say: "Fashion finds its freedom in the art of individuals; NOT JUST A LABEL is a place for those who find their way off the beaten track, allowing them to express themselves in a community where everything goes...break the mould, redefine the expected, re-colour the palette, inspire and be inspired.” By giving young talent the platform to sell pieces from their labels, encouraging and showcasing the different designers from around the world, this is a unique site. Its aim to support a new creative force and inspire others is not like any other and it should boost the motivation of those pursuing an artistic path.

Whilst following the NJAL site and working on my book project, I have come across many British designers who are using the home grown skills of craftsmen. These include Dunhill and Margaret Howell.

I find the subject quite fascinating, especially at a time when fast fashion is at its peak. With this in mind I have written an article for NJAL about manufacture and production in Britain, which will uncover some interesting facts about how these brands, among others, go to outstanding lengths to keep to tradition and produce pieces of the highest quality.
