Whilst I have a “healthy” love of shoes, I also have a fair sized crush on trainers. Not quite as much as a past colleague and friend, who I am convinced had a temperature controlled room for his collection. I kid you not. Rules were in place, if it looked like rain, no white trainer was ever to be worn, they would be wiped clean every night and rested. I feel sorry for the bumbling commuter who accidentally trod on a pair of his beloved Nike.

Everyone is at it, well a lot of people are. Yves Saint Laurent has been leaning this way since the design house began. Coco Chanel first did this with her lovers clothes as she had nothing else to wear. It’s girls wanting to dress as men. By using the tailoring and then tweaking its appearance for a feminine touch, rich and original results can be achieved. I suppose it is a little selfish of us girls, as it means we can effectively double our wardrobe by hijacking our boyfriends or husbands – just don’t attack it with the scissor or harmony may be destroyed indefinitely.

Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent was sending out the 70’s YSL girl (literally in medallion form) but with twists of updates. Wide legged, high waisted trousers, large floppy hats – classic Left bank Chic.
